Pelvic Pain Support

Pelvic pain is a common, yet often overlooked, concern for many women at different stages of life.

It can affect daily comfort, intimacy, exercise, and overall wellbeing.

At SPG Women’s Health, we provide compassionate, evidence-based physiotherapy to help women understand and manage pelvic pain so they can return to the activities that matter most.

What is pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain may be felt in the lower abdomen, hips, lower back, or pelvic floor. It can present as aching, sharp twinges, burning, heaviness, or muscle tension.

Sometimes the cause is clear – such as after childbirth, surgery, or injury – while other times it can develop gradually and feel difficult to explain.

Common conditions associated with pelvic pain include:

  • Endometriosis and/or adenomyosis
  • Painful periods
  • Pain with intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Pelvic floor muscle tension or overactivity
  • Postnatal recovery pain
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Bladder or bowel-related pain

How physiotherapy can help

Pelvic health physiotherapy focuses on the muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissues of the pelvis. By assessing your movement, strength, posture, and pelvic floor function, we can identify contributing factors and create a tailored treatment plan.

Treatment may include:

  • Pelvic floor muscle relaxation techniques
  • Gentle manual therapy and release work
  • Breathing and movement retraining
  • Education around pain science and self-management
  • Lifestyle and activity modifications to reduce flare-ups
  • Gradual return to exercise and daily activities
